Led by a board comprising leaders from the business and community sectors from Singapore and other Asian countries, Temasek Foundation is a non-profit philanthropic organisation established by Temasek Holdings, Singapore, to contribute to sustainable growth and a bright future of hope and opportunities for the people in Asia, including Singapore, in the following areas:

  • ·         Developing people through education, health care and research
  • ·         Building bridges between peoples;
  • ·         Building institutions of excellence through good governance and ethics; and
  • ·         Rebuilding lives and livelihoods affected by natural disasters

Education, training and skills-enhancement programmes are a natural focus for the foundation as the investment in human capital is critical for sustainable development and growth.  The foundation supports such investments in education, health care and research, in areas like general academic education, technical and vocational education and training, management and leadership development, and the development of enhanced capacities and new capabilities in communities in Asia.

Future generations of Asians will have wonderful opportunities to work together and benefit from one another and it is important for the peoples in Asia to continue building bonds of friendship, mutual understanding and cooperation.  The foundation supports programmes that help to build bridges and social capital among the diverse peoples of Asia, and in the process, help to build a progressive, prosperous and connected Asia.

Best practices in governance, public policy and administration, and regulatory frameworks, whether they are in the business or community domain, are important for sustainable growth.  In this area, the foundation supports programmes that share best practices and model structures and systems, and train leaders and managers, thereby helping to build institutions of excellence in and across communities in Asia.

Communities affected by natural disasters will need assistance in relief and recovery efforts and, just as important, in the efforts to rebuild lives and livelihoods.  The foundation is committed to providing help to these communities by complementing the support provided by others and extending the impact of the collective efforts, including programmes which mitigate the effects of such natural disasters in future.

Across the 4 areas of its mandate, the foundation will focus on programmes that have a multiplier effect and that build capacity, capability and networks of cooperation in a systemic and sustainable manner.  Instead of receiving applications and requests for support, the foundation works with civic and institutional partners that have similar visions and objectives, and complementary expertise, resources or connections.  By leveraging on the respective strengths of all partners involved, the collective efforts will make a more meaningful and effective contribution in the lives of various peoples and communities in Asia.
