Pre-event:
• Students will begin to communicate with one another via the Internet on an assigned topic from November 2009, two months prior to the event.
• Books related to Science and Scientists will be sent to students in November 2009 for reading before the event.
• Every student is encouraged to provide a poster on a completed science project to be displayed at the Research Symposium Poster Exhibition at the Forum.
During the event:
• As this is a five-day residential forum, students and teachers will stay at the Hwa Chong Institution Boarding School.
• Students can participate in focused dialogues with Nobel Laureates and eminent research scientists.
• Students can showcase their research work and have them judged by the Nobel Laureates during the Science Research Symposium.
• Students will review the books that they read during the event.
• Students will gain hands-on experience at a top-notch research institute in Singapore with state-of-the art technology.
• Students can participate in cultural visits to places of interest in Singapore.
Post-event:
• Students will share their learning and experiences with schoolmates upon their return.
• Students will be encouraged to maintain ties with other participants after the Forum.
Programme highlights for educators
Pre-event:
• The educator is encouraged to prepare a short abstract presenting research findings on the practice of science education.
During the event:
• Educators will be engaged in focused dialogues with Nobel Laureates and eminent research scientists for ideas in teaching.
• Educators can present their professional findings at a forum for discussion and sharing among science teachers. This platform will allow teachers to interact and network with peers from different countries.
• Educators can participate in a workshop by the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, on innovation in science education.
• Educators can gain hands-on experience at a top-notch research institute in Singapore with state-of-the-art technology.
• Educators can draft plans/ideas to be implemented in school based on what they learn at the Forum.
• Educators can participate in cultural visits to places of interest in Singapore.
Post event:
• Educators will share their learning points and insights with others.
• Educators are encouraged to implement their plans/ideas in their schools.
• Educators will maintain correspondence with Hwa Chong Institution and provide updates on the implementation of their plans/ideas after the Forum.
